About Us
The Puyallup Area Aging in Community Committee evolved from the initial Aging in Place (defined as the ability to live in one’s own home as long as possible) Committee formed from the AdvantAge Initiative Task Force established over a decade ago when Puyallup became one of ten nationally participating cities focused on how cities can best become age-friendly.
Community Involvement
Our mission is to help area residents to understand aging issues, to champion Puyallup as a community livable for all ages and to reject ageism. We are a 501 (C) (3) charitable non-profit organization.
The PAAICC sponsors two major community events annually:
- The Volunteer Fair held in October brings individuals who want to volunteer together with organizations looking for volunteers, much like “speed dating” for volunteers.
- A special event in May in celebration of May as Older Americans Month. Events sponsored have included:
- Successful Aging with Roger Landry, MD, well-known preventive medicine physician and award-winning author of Live Long, Die Short and
- Changing Aging Tour, with renowned geriatrician and founder of the Eden Alternative and Greenhouse Project movements, Dr. Bill Thomas.
- Aging EXPO 2018 featuring speakers discussing the new realities of aging and how to make the most of the gift of longevity plus an opportunity to interact with organizations and services geared to an aging population.
- Aging EXPO 2019—Connect, Create, Contribute, May 4, 8-4 pm at Pierce College Puyallup.
